More about me.

IMG_3020.jpg

I live in New York City with my wife, Lian.

We met in China where we were both living as expats. We moved to the states and got married in New York after the Defense of Marriage Act was repealed, and then got married again in her home country of the Philippines for good measure.

I am passionate about supporting good causes.

I am Chair of the Board of New Destiny Housing, a New York City nonprofit founded in 1994 to build permanent housing for domestic violence survivors, and I am part of the leadership team for the Community Safety and Security Role Network for Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.

If you are looking for other causes to support, I would also recommend the Black Trans Bike Experience, founded by a Stanford classmate. Internationally, I’d recommend Friends of San Lucas or Movimiento de Apoyo de Menores Abandonados.

Family Outside.jpg

I grew up in Washington, D.C.

I’m a proud product of the DC public school system. My parents and younger brother still live in DC, and my older brother and his family live in Jackson, Wyoming.

I used to be competitive at sports.

In college I was club president of the rugby team. We won the USA Rugby National Collegiate Championships three times while I was there. In high school I was on the powerlifting, soccer, and lacrosse teams. Now I enjoy poor attempts at rock climbing and very slow jogging by the river.

Friends.jpg

I’ve been very lucky in friendship.

I’ve forced my high school and college friends into one supergroup bent on taking over the world - or at least significantly improving it through the law, data science, advocacy, research, and good food.
